Algebra I Parent Night - 1/9/2018 -

January 2, 2018

Dear  Parent/Guardian of students in Algebra I,

We would like to invite you to attend a very important informational session on Tuesday, January 9th at 6:30 pm in the high school media center.  This meeting is for the parents/ guardians of students currently enrolled in Algebra I in our high school.  At this meeting we will review with parents the updated New Jersey state regulations for high school graduation assessment requirements in both English language arts (ELA) and mathematics for your child.

High school graduation requirements for the Class of 2021 and beyond require students pass the ELA 10 and Algebra I assessments (the PARCC).  To continue to support our students in ensuring they meet this requirement, we are in the process of designing after school small group “coach” / “prep” sessions for students. These sessions will be open to any Algebra I student, but specifically for students who did not receive a proficient score on the grade 8 math PARCC.  Any student who scored Level I, II, III on the grade 8 math PARCC is strongly encouraged to attend these sessions.

After school sessions will be taught by math-certified teachers who will review test-taking strategies and foundational Algebra I skills.  Students will also take practice tests in preparation for the spring administration of PARCC. We are building in some incentives to encourage students to attend, (i.e., we will provide snacks). We are also making arrangements to provide transportation.

Please join us on Tuesday, January 9 at 6:30 pm to learn more about the graduation requirements and how we plan to help all of our students meet the requirements.  Please RSVP so we may plan accordingly.
